DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado will employ surveillance technology along the Interstate 70 express lanes in the mountains to monitor drivers who run afoul of the rules. The technology includes sensors, cameras and software, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, which said Colorado will be the first to use it."These elements will work together to identify vehicles that are weaving in and out of the lane, using the lane when it's closed or driving an oversized vehicle in the lane," CDOT said in a release. Oversized vehicles include those with more than two axles or longer than 25 feet. The express lanes were designed to relieve congestion for high-country travelers on peak periods like holidays and weekends. The rest of the time, they are closed and operate as shoulders. HOUSTON — Grant Hartwig’s decision to forego medical school has seemingly paid off. The right-hander was called up to the Mets from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday and is set to make his major league debut this week against the Houston Astros.Syracuse Mets manager Dick Scott told Hartwig after the team returned from a series in Buffalo on Sunday. It was unexpected, but then again, Hartwig’s entire career has been a little unexpected.“Dick Scott told me right after we got off the bus yesterday,” Hartwig said Monday at Minute Maid Park before the Mets began a three-game series against the Houston Astros. “We came back from Buffalo last night and then found out around all of my teammates. It was a great experience got to call my parents afterwards.”When Hartwig was playing college baseball at Miami (Ohio), a professional career wasn’t on his radar. His focus was on a different kind of baseball career: Hartwig wanted to be an orthopedic surgeo...Kids, ‘drugs, sex toys,’ dead man in South Boston apartment: ‘Sickening’

Four children living in squalid conditions while being hidden from first responders were found in an apartment filled with “alcohol, drugs, sex toys” and a dead man, according to an incident report and outraged officials.“This is sickening,” said At-Large City Councilor Michael Flaherty. “I was informed by people at the scene that there were drugs, alcohol, sex toys all around the apartment as well as a dead body on the floor.”That fire department report, obtained by the Herald and confirmed by police response, states that a BFD crew was sent to Old Colony Avenue Saturday morning for a call that a man had gone into cardiac arrest and required medical attention. That address is the Mary Ellen McCormack Housing complex run by the city. However, according to the incident report, firefighters found more than just a routine medical emergency.“The apartment was in extremely unsanitary conditions. JULIAN, Calif. -- The body of a hiker missing since last Friday at Three Sisters Falls in Julian was found Monday, authorities said.Around 1:30 p.m., volunteer divers with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Reserve Unit recovered the body underwater in the middle pool of Three Sisters Falls, Lt. William Amavisca with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. The area where the 27-year-old man was found was the same location where he was last seen on June 16, per law enforcement.Amavisca explained that the water current was too dangerous for divers to attempt a search underwater until Monday. “Visibility alone was bad, on top of the strength of the current. A few factors, including the closing of a dam upstream, have helped bring the flow of water down. A lot of the debris in the water has settled, making it easier to see, but with that being said, it's actually going to still be a difficult dive for our divers," Amavisca said.
